Cramond Beach and Island
Size: A2, Mixed Media on Canvas
Original artwork (not a print) by Kirsteen Lyons-Benson BA (Hons)
Cramond Beach captures the quiet, shifting landscape of the shoreline at low tide. With the sea drawn far back, a vast stretch of sand opens out, leading the eye across nearly a mile of textured ground toward the island, temporarily joined to the mainland by the receding water. Subtle variations in the sand—cool greys, soft browns, and pale blues—suggest the movement of water and time, with a gentle path of pooled water left behind by a sandbar guiding the composition.
In the distance, the faint outline of the Lomond Hills rises softly against the sky, adding a sense of depth and place. Loose, expressive mark-making and layered mixed media evoke the atmosphere of the exposed beach—calm, expansive, and quietly luminous—capturing a fleeting moment where land and sea blur into one.
