Artist’s Private Art Gallery Tours

Edinburgh, Scotland

What makes my tours unique? They’re led by a real Scottish artist who grew up immersed in Scotland’s art world. My parents met at Glasgow School of Art and were close friends with the renowned Alasdair Gray, whose work and ideas helped shape my own artistic path.

On my private tours of the National Galleries of Scotland, I share personal stories and insight into the creative process — focusing on tonal value, light, shadow, colour, and atmosphere — helping you understand how and why the paintings were made, rather than simply learning dates and names.

Tours are small, friendly, welcoming, and designed for all levels of art interest, from complete beginners to passionate art lovers.

Many visitors say the tours help them finally understand paintings they may previously have walked past without noticing. By learning simple artistic ideas such as tonal contrast, composition, colour harmony, and the use of light, you begin to see galleries in a completely new way.

As a working contemporary artist, Kirsteen also shares insight into the materials and techniques used by painters, from traditional oil painting methods to expressive modern approaches. Discussions are relaxed, conversational, and tailored to the interests of each group.

The tours often include Scottish landscapes, seascapes, portraiture, symbolism, and impressionist influences, helping visitors connect Scottish history, culture, and atmosphere with the artwork itself. You will discover how Scotland’s dramatic light, weather, coastline, and cities influenced generations of Scottish painters.

These Edinburgh gallery tours are ideal for travellers looking for unique cultural experiences in Scotland and for anyone wanting a more personal alternative to large guided museum groups.

Private art tours also make memorable experiences for birthdays, couples visiting Edinburgh, family outings, creative retreats, and small tourist groups wanting something inspiring and different.

What Visitors Say About Kirsteen’s Edinburgh Art Tours

Visitors regularly describe Kirsteen’s tours and workshops as inspiring, welcoming, and completely different from standard museum tours. Many reviews mention how the experience helped them understand art in a deeper and more personal way.

One visitor wrote:

“Kirsteen showed me galleries and museum around Edinburgh as I've never saw them before. She definitely gave me back my passion for art and gave me the push I needed to get back to it!”

Another reviewer said:

“Kirsteen managed to nurture confidence and inspire all of us. We were delighted with our sketches.”

Guests often comment on the relaxed atmosphere, the depth of artistic knowledge, and Kirsteen’s ability to explain painting techniques in simple and engaging ways. Because the tours are led by a practising Scottish artist rather than a scripted guide, discussions naturally include real insight into artistic process, creativity, Scottish culture, and the life of working artists.

These highly personal Edinburgh gallery tours have become popular with tourists looking for authentic cultural experiences, creative travellers, families, couples, and people reconnecting with their own creativity.

Many visitors also enjoy discovering Scottish art through themes such as light, weather, seascapes, symbolism, colour, storytelling, and atmosphere — learning to look at paintings with the eyes of an artist rather than simply viewing them as historical objects.
